Scams and Fraud
Scams, illegal copying of our website, and fraudulent use of our identity
In common with other businesses, from time to time our website is copied and attempts are made to trade fraudulently on our good name.
In our case the scam is usually people claiming to represent Tim Wood Limited, and sending out emails offering individuals the opportunity to act as company representatives. The bait will often involve banking a false Western Union money order and then remitting a ten per cent margin to the scammer. The offer is, of course, a complete con and the individual who is taken in by this scam will lose all the funds involved. Any such emails should be totally ignored and no money should ever be sent or bank or personal details disclosed.
The use of Western Union is a favourite ploy that is the sure sign of a scam, as is an email from an address that is very slightly different from the genuine one or which originates from Yahoo, gmail or another free email address. A further giveaway is the provision of a contact number that has no geographical location and may well be a premium rate number.
If you are approached you could do a search of sites that monitor internet scams. The details could also be referred to your own internet service provider, the sender's ISP, your local trading standards authority or organisations such as actionfraud.org.uk
